A classic chip shop style pie with a rich onion gravy filling.

Ingredients

  • 500g beef mince
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 400ml beef stock
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 sheet shortcrust pastry
  • Salt & pepper

Pastry

  • 250g plain flour
  • 125g butter
  • 1-3 tbsp milk or water
  • pinch salt

Method

  1. Fry mince and onions until browned.
  2. Stir in flour and cook 1 minute.
  3. Add stock and Worcestershire; simmer until thick.
  4. Fill a pie dish, top with pastry and bake at 200°C for 25–30 minutes.
