A warm, comforting classic with soft apples and a buttery, crunchy crumble topping.

Ingredients

For the filling

  • 6 large apples (Bramley or Granny Smith), peeled & sliced
  • 50g sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

For the crumble

  • 150g plain flour
  • 100g cold butter, cubed
  • 80g sugar
  • Pinch of salt

Method

1. Prepare the apples

  1. Toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice.
  2. Add to a baking dish.

2. Make the crumble

  1. Rub butter into flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  2. Stir in sugar and salt.
  3. Sprinkle over the apples.

3. Bake

  • Bake at 190°C (170°C fan) for 35–40 minutes until golden and bubbling.
